Silphie-Fasern

Our Fibers.

The packaging industry is at a turning point. While conventional fresh wood fibers are becoming increasingly scarce and demand for resource-saving solutions is rising, we at OutNature are developing innovative alternatives from fast-growing plants.

Versatile Raw Materials

Our Silphie fiber, already established on the market, and our fibers from straw and paludi biomass, which will soon be available, can be used for the production of paper. In particular, Silphie fibers enable more resource-efficient paper compared to wood fiber alternatives, as they are more climate-friendly. Due to their properties, our fibers also show the potential to penetrate other markets and application fields outside the traditional paper and packaging market.

Regionality

All fibers are obtained in Germany and reduce CO₂ emissions through short transport routes compared to imported materials such as eucalyptus pulp. In addition, the use of paludi biomass from rewetted peatlands promotes paludiculture – an active contribution to climate protection, as peatlands act as important carbon reservoirs.

Contribution to the Circular Economy

But that’s not all: through cascading use, Silphie and straw can be recycled multiple times. Silphie is used in a cascading manner by generating biogas from the remaining plant components in addition to fiber extraction. Straw, a byproduct of grain production, is also available in large quantities and is efficiently recycled by us.

As a research and development partner, we continuously work on optimizing existing processes and tap into new potentials of alternative plant fibers for forward-looking solutions.

Silphie Fibers

As the world’s only producer of Silphie fibers, OutNature has developed a special biothermal process that extracts high-quality fibers for paper production from this regionally grown energy crop. Silphie paper is characterized by a special feel and color. At the same time, it represents a more resource-efficient alternative for packaging solutions.

Straw Fibers

A raw material everyone knows: straw has accompanied us since childhood in fields and in country life. This “old acquaintance” is now becoming part of the solution for modern environmental problems. OutNature transforms agricultural residual material into high-quality fibers for paper and packaging applications, combining nostalgic memories with forward-looking innovation.

Paludi Fibers

Tradition meets future: Paludiculture combines old knowledge of peatland use with state-of-the-art research. As part of the toMOORow initiative, OutNature is currently researching sensible use paths for rewetted peatlands in order to preserve or restore these valuable ecosystems as natural climate protectors. Reeds and cattails are being examined as potentially valuable raw materials, while endangered ecosystems are protected at the same time.
